If you’ve just started Fortnite Save the World and heard about Twine Peaks, high-level farming, or the Mythic Storm King — you’re probably wondering how long it takes to get there. The answer most players don’t know: you can unlock every zone in a matter of hours, without touching a single main quest.

Here’s the shortcut that most guides don’t tell you.

You Don’t Need to Complete Main Quests

When new players load into STW, the game presents a long storyline — quests, cutscenes, NPCs asking you to complete objectives across the map. Most players assume they need to follow this chain all the way through Stonewood, Plankerton, Canny Valley, and finally Twine Peaks.

That’s not true.

The main quest storyline is completely optional for zone progression. The only thing that actually gates your access to the next zone is your Storm Shield Defenses (SSD) and one mission called Launch the Rocket.

The Minimum Path — Zone by Zone

Each zone follows the same pattern. You only need to do 5 Storm Shield Defenses and then complete the Launch the Rocket mission to unlock the next zone. That’s it.

Stonewood → Plankerton

1. Complete Storm Shield Defense 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Stonewood
2. Complete the Launch the Rocket mission in Stonewood
3. Plankerton is now unlocked — no storyline required

Plankerton → Canny Valley

1. Complete Storm Shield Defense 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Plankerton
2. Complete the Launch the Rocket mission in Plankerton
3. Canny Valley is now unlocked

Canny Valley → Twine Peaks

1. Complete Storm Shield Defense 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 in Canny Valley
2. Complete the Launch the Rocket mission in Canny Valley
3. Twine Peaks is now unlocked

Once you’re in Twine Peaks, you’re in endgame territory — where the best weapons, the most XP, and the best rewards in the game are found.

What About Twine Peaks SSD 1–5?

Once you arrive in Twine Peaks, the same rule applies. Completing Storm Shield Defense 1 through 5 in Twine Peaks is the key progression milestone — and it unlocks one of the most important quest chains in the game.

After completing Twine Peaks SSD 5, the King Me quest becomes available. This quest is the direct prerequisite to access the Mythic Storm King encounter — the weekly boss fight that rewards the most powerful weapon schematics in all of STW.

What You’re Skipping (And Why It Doesn’t Matter)

By following this path, you skip:

• Dozens of storyline quests in each zone
• NPC dialogue and cutscenes
• Side objectives and collection quests

None of this content is required to access high-level missions, endgame farming, Ventures, Endurance, or the Mythic Storm King. The main story in STW is entirely optional for progression purposes.

One more thing worth knowing: your Commander Level directly controls how high you can level your weapons, traps, heroes, and survivors — so even if you’ve unlocked a new zone, your gear can still hit a hard cap if your Commander Level hasn’t kept up. The fastest way to push through it is setting up a Stonewood or Canny Valley Endurance build. For the full breakdown, check out our Commander Level guide. But its important to keep in mind: Endurance mode requires completing all 10 Storm Shield Defenses in a zone — not just the first 5. So if your goal is to run Stonewood or Canny Valley Endurance for AFK XP farming, you’ll need to push your SSD to 10 in that zone eventually. But that’s a separate goal you can pursue after you’ve already unlocked Twine Peaks.

How Fast Can You Get to Twine Peaks?

With a decent Power Level and a basic setup, each zone’s SSD 1–5 + Launch the Rocket can be done in under 2 hours per zone. That puts a brand new account in Twine Peaks in roughly 6 to 8 hours of play — without grinding a single main quest.

If you have access to a high-level friend or group to carry the SSDs, it goes even faster.
