If you’re trying to get stronger in Fortnite Save the World, Power Level is the number that matters most. It affects how effective your builds are, which missions you can access, and how well you perform in high-level zones. Here’s a complete breakdown of how it works and how to raise it as fast as possible.

What Is Power Level in Fortnite STW?

Your Power Level (PL) is a measure of your overall account strength. It’s primarily driven by your Survivor Squads — The higher the level of your survivors, the higher your Power Level.

The maximum Power Level achievable is 144, which requires maxing out all survivors to level 60 using Superchargers.

Key milestones to know:

  • PL 130 — All survivors at level 50 (the base max before Superchargers)
  • PL 144 — All survivors at level 60 (requires Survivor Superchargers)

Why Do Survivors Matter So Much?

It’s not just about a number going up. Every survivor you slot into your squads contributes points to one of four core stats — known as F.O.R.T. stats. Each point equals a 1% increase to that stat:

  • Fortitude — Increases your max health, making you harder to kill
  • Offense — Directly increases weapon damage
  • Resistance — Reduces incoming damage from husks
  • Technology — Increases the effectiveness of your traps

This means that leveling your survivors doesn’t just raise your PL number — it makes every aspect of your gameplay stronger. Higher Offense means your guns hit harder. Higher Technology means your trap tunnels deal more damage and last longer. The difference between a PL 70 and a PL 130 account in a high-level zone is enormous in practice.

What Do You Need to Level Up Survivors?

Leveling your survivors requires three main resources:

1. People XP

People XP is the primary experience used to level up your survivors and heroes. As of patch v40.00, Hero XP and Survivor XP were merged into a single resource called People XP.

The amount of People XP you earn per mission scales heavily with the zone’s power level. Low-level zones (Stonewood, early Plankerton) give very little XP per run. High-level Twine Peaks zones (PL 160) give dramatically more — making farming in high-level zones the only efficient way to progress quickly.

2. Evolution Materials

To evolve your survivors through rarity tiers (which is required every 10 levels), you need evolution materials:

  • Drops of Rain — Common, used at lower tiers
  • Lightning in a Bottle — Uncommon, mid-tier evolution
  • Eye of the Storm — Rare, used at higher tiers
  • Storm Shards — Epic, required for max evolution

These materials drop from missions, with higher-level zones giving rarer materials far more frequently. In the same way as People XP , Higher tier zones give dramatically more — making farming in high-level zones the only efficient way to progress quickly.

3. Training Manuals

Training Manuals are used to evolve survivors and heroes. The best way to farm them is by recycling Legendary survivors and heroes that you no longer need. The most efficient source of recyclable Legendary survivors is Mission Alerts — these daily missions reward Legendary survivors that you can immediately recycle for Training Manuals. You can also earn earn training manuals by buying every legendary survivors or heroes you find in the Event Store and recycling them.

The Problem With Low-Level Farming

Here’s the honest reality: if you’re grinding low-level missions, progression is painfully slow. The XP per run is minimal, evolution materials are scarce, and it can take weeks to make meaningful progress on your Power Level. Most players plateau well below PL 130 simply because the grind becomes unsustainable. Not in Twine Peaks yet? Here’s how to unlock all zones fast.

The Fast Way — Farm With Us in PL 160 Zones

The fastest way to increase your Power Level is to farm People XP, evolution materials, and Training Manuals in PL 160 Twine Peaks zones — the highest available in the game. The difference in yield compared to lower zones is massive.
