If you’ve been playing Fortnite Save the World for a while, you know that weapon power level matters — a lot. A PL 130 gun hits dramatically harder than a PL 82, and in endgame zones, having properly leveled weapons can be the difference between clearing a mission and failing it. So where do you actually get high PL guns, and is there a way to buy them?

What Are Power Levels in STW?

Every weapon in Fortnite Save the World has a power level that determines how much damage it deals. Weapons drop at a level tied to the zone they’re found in — the higher the zone’s power level, the higher the weapon’s PL.

In Twine Peaks endgame zones, weapons can drop at PL 108 all the way up to PL 130, making them the strongest available in the game. These are the weapons serious players use for high-level missions, endurance runs, and any content that requires real DPS.

How Are High PL Guns Obtained? — Storm Chests Explained

The main way to get high power level weapons in STW is through Storm Chests — one of the most rewarding activities in the game.

Here’s how Storm Chests work:

Finding the Chest

Storm Chests appear randomly in missions of Power Level 28 and above. They look like a purple-glowing Level 6 Chest surrounded by purple smoke, usually found along the outer edges of the map. You’ll hear a distinct ambient sound when one is nearby.

The Three Waves

Once you interact with a Storm Chest, a timed elimination event starts. You have three waves to complete:

  • Wave 1 — Eliminate 25 husks before time runs out
  • Wave 2 — Eliminate 50 husks before time runs out
  • Wave 3 — Eliminate 2 Mist Monsters (Takers and/or Blasters)

The Rewards

Complete all three waves and every qualifying player receives 2 reward boxes. Complete only waves 1 and 2 and you get 1 reward box. Fail entirely and you get nothing.

The reward boxes contain:

  • 1–2 weapons scaled to the zone’s power level
  • Rare crafting materials (the higher the zone, the rarer the materials)
  • Ammunition

The key detail: weapon tier scales directly with the mission’s power level. Farming Storm Chests in PL 140 Twine Peaks zones means your weapon drops will be at or near PL 130. This is why high-level zone farming is the go-to method for gearing up.

It’s a Group Activity

Storm Chests are intentionally designed for group play. The husk waves are fast and numerous — soloing them is difficult even for experienced players. Only players within a certain tile range of the chest when the event ends receive rewards, so everyone needs to stay close.

The Problem: You Need to Be in High PL Zones

Here’s the wall most players run into. To farm Storm Chests in PL 108–130 zones, you need to be in Twine Peaks — which requires completing significant campaign progression to unlock. Even then, surviving and clearing efficiently in those zones requires a strong build and good weapons to begin with.

It’s the classic STW loop: you need high PL gear to farm efficiently, but you need to farm efficiently to get high PL gear.
